The Atritor Turbo Separator system effectively separates products from it's packaging with up to 99% efficiency. Up until the 1990's, prior to the BSE crisis, rejected food stuffs and confectionary were typically processed for use as animal feeds.

The effects of the restrictions resulted in the increase and availability of waste organic matter. The Utility Companies saw a rich source of methane gas, which when land-filled into specially prepared sites, could be tapped off and used as fuel to generate electricity in turbine power generators.

With regulations tightened, organic waste containing animal by-products will not be allowed to be disposed of into landfill sites for much longer.

Bio Gas Companies investigated different ways to remove the contents from its packaging; limited success was achieved using shredding and crushing machinery. Either the packaging was damaged too much resulting in product contamination, or the product left with the packaging after separation was above acceptable limits.

The Atritor Turbo Separator, utilizing centrifugal forces and the mechanical action generated by the paddle system, damages the packaging just enough to achieve separation rates of up to 99% efficiency.

A number of Atritor Turbo Separator systems have been supplied to Rendering Companies, which have helped to increase their process efficiency, resulting in reducing running costs. A major  International  Food

Group was faced with the problem of securely disposing of out of date, out of spec or wrongly labelled materials. Atritor Ltd installed a Turbo Separator system, which eliminated landfill costs overnight and generated income from scrap tin. Bio gas was also generated from the product when fed into a Digestion Plant.

The Atritor Turbo Separator has many   other    applications,    from
composting to car tyre recycling, removing tea from tea bags, or separating gypsum from plasterboard. Atritor Ltd will be exhibiting the Turbo Separator on Stand 1447 at the Recycling Waste Management Exhibition at the NEC on 11th to the 13th September.
